A combination of short days, cold weather and post-Christmas blues has led to the third week of January and this Monday earning a reputation as the gloomiest day of the year.
But today ‘Blue Monday’ turns into ‘Brew Monday’ and thousands of people are coming together for a cuppa, a chat and to banish the winter blues. To help lighten the load, you can share the warmth this winter by getting involved with the Brew Monday initiative set up by the Samaritans charity.
Coffee, tea, hot chocolate – whatever your choice of drink, grab a cuppa and take the chance to reconnect with someone you care about today. Check in on a friend, family member or colleague who might need cheering up and show you’re there for them. Because it’s more important than ever that we take time out for a cuppa and a chat! This could make a real difference to a person who is having a hard time.
Get everyone together for a virtual cuppa, sign up to host a Brew Monday event and start your own Samaritans fundraiser by:
- creating a group video chat via Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp or Facebook messenger;
- hosting a phone call or conference call can work just as well for connecting with people, especially for those not comfortable on camera.
Research from the charity has found that 58% of UK adults felt that speaking regularly to friends and family either on the phone, via video calls or in-person over the last year, had a positive effect on their mental wellbeing. Survey respondents also highlighted feeling less isolated and improving their mood as common reasons for keeping in touch.
