Meet our new CSR Manager and learn about our holiday Giving Back opportunities
I recently started at Wilson James as CSR manager. It’s great to be here and I’m really looking forward to working across the business to build on the great work we’re already doing on Planet, People and Performance. It’s evident just how much hard work is already being done to make us more sustainable, improve Equality Diversity and Inclusion and fundraise for great causes and I’m really looking forward to working with you all on more.
Recently, I was lucky to have the opportunity to visit our strategic partner Crisis – I was given a tour of their amazing Skylight centre in the heart of Shoreditch. Crisis’s aim is to end homelessness. It was amazing to see at first-hand how they do this. Their centre caters for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. People who come there have become homeless for many many different reasons, but what they get when they arrive there is a package of support to help them out of homelessness for good.
Crisis’s homeless clients get practical help to find housing, counselling and support with issues they have and they receive accredited training and help into employment. Importantly, for many people who may be very lonely due to their homelessness, they build a community and network with others around them. All of this means that through the support that crisis provide, people can and do get out of homelessness.
It’s exciting to see how Wilson James will be able to help Crisis to continue to make this happen, both through fundraising and also through the opportunities we have to help crisis’s beneficiaries into work. This week I also heard first-hand about Alyson McNeela, Client Relationship Manager and Gary Young, Resourcing Consultant’s great work; they attended Crisis’s careers fair and interviewed over 20 people who have been homeless. They were happy to see that several of these people already had the necessary security qualifications to be placed with our clients – this was only possible because of the accredited training provided by Crisis. We will keep you updated on this exciting work.
There are lots of brilliant ways to support people that are homeless this Christmas, including:
Sign-up for the Icebreaker Challenge taking place at Parliament Hill Lido in North London on 25th January – team up with Wilson James colleagues and challenge yourself to swim a lap of this icy open air pool or just jump in. Fancy dress and decorative swim caps are also encouraged! Registration is £25 and will help someone who is homeless regain a sense of worth through healthcare and counselling at Crisis. To reserve a space, solo or as a team of four, email CSR@wilsonjames.co.uk by 31 of October (let us know who your team members are, if you’re in a team). Reserve a place for a guest (a person who is homeless) at a Crisis at Christmas centre – At Christmas centres across Great Britain, Crisis will be offering food, clothing and support with health, housing and employment to thousands of people who are homeless. By donating £28.87 you can reserve a place at Crisis for someone who’s homeless this Christmas.
Each place reserved gives a guest access to:
- A health check and treatment from a doctor, optician and dentist
- Expert help with mental health and addiction problems
- Advice on housing, employment and benefits
- Three nutritious, hot meals daily, including a delicious Christmas dinner
- A bed for the night if needed
- A chance to shower, freshen up and get essential clothing
- A warm welcome and good company.
- Each of our guests can also access Crisis’ life-changing education, training and support
