National Inclusion Week 2019

23rd September 2019

Dear colleagues,

Inclusivity and diversity have become buzzwords in the business world in recent years and often with positive effects. Across industries, policies have been updated, a more proactive approach to hiring and development has become the norm and industries have made great strides to make inclusion and diversity a priority.

Wilson James is no different. We pride ourselves on our commitments to inclusion and diversity. Our workforce is made up of over 5,000 unique individuals with wide-ranging backgrounds and perspectives. We are proud of our history of promoting ground-breaking work life balance commitments in the security industry, the many languages and backgrounds in our ranks, our statistics on women in leadership and many other achievements.

And yet, we know there is more to be done to ensure a truly inclusive workplace, and to drive positive change in the industries in which we operate.

At its most fundamental, inclusion and diversity commitments are about ensuring that there is a place and opportunity for everyone in our workplaces and our society. If such programmes are to succeed, they must be authentic in their intentions.

I am therefore very pleased to announce that Wilson James has joined the Inclusive Employers organisation. Founded in 2011, their mission is to help organisations build truly inclusive workplaces through consultancy, training and thought leadership.

I am also pleased to announce a newly-constituted steering group committed to diversity and inclusion at Wilson James. This is to ensure that we maximise this partnership and ensure our efforts are not “tick-box exercises” but represent meaningful engagement and strategic focus.

Our current diversity and inclusion agenda priorities are:

  • Mental health awareness and support, as part of our commitment to employee wellbeing and our Time To Change programme
  • LGBT community engagement, in association with key client partners
  • Acceptance of and awareness of the challenges faced by colleagues with hidden and/or visible disabilities
  • Ongoing support for every individual member of our workforce population through creative and fun engagement

This week is National Inclusion Week and to participate, we will be sharing information and stories from the business on these priorities on our newsfeed and social media. I hope you will read and share with your teams and colleagues, and participate in the conversation within Wilson James as it evolves.
