Wilson James, the leading provider of specialist security, logistics and aviation services, has announced the appointment of Liz Hegarty to the newly created role of managing director of its aviation and transport services division. Hegarty will use her extensive and wide-ranging experience within the aviation sector to optimise Wilson James’ operational effectiveness, and ensure the safety and security of travellers during their airport experience.
Hegarty graduated from Queen Mary University of London in 2004, whereupon she joined London City Airport’s graduate trainee programme. During her time there she undertook a number of diverse roles, leading community and stakeholder relations, consultation for the airport’s successful planning application to double in size and implementation of the sustainability management system and standard operating procedures for the growing operation. In 2012 she took this knowledge to Heathrow Airport, initially as head of sustainability and environment. Her nine-year tenure also included three years as head of security and culminated in her final position as customer services director, leading the operation of Heathrow’s terminals and transport.
Wilson James is a longstanding partner of Heathrow Airport, which meant that Hegarty was in a position to witness the values, ethos and working methodology that would eventually inform her decision to join the company. She explained, ‘I’ve always been impressed by the way that Wilson James continually strives to provide a quality service. I had the pleasure of working closely with the company and saw it pioneer a number of initiatives to improve the travel experience for passengers requiring support (PRS), which transformed the operation and delivery of Heathrow Airport’s activities in this area. I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities and further improving its offering through a combination of the best people and the latest technology.’
As the aviation sector emerges from the coronavirus pandemic, Wilson James predicts ongoing growth throughout the 2021-22 financial year. However, the operational and competitive landscape has changed and, as a result, it needs to demonstrate even higher levels of agility, flexibility and customer service to drive its business forward. Hegarty’s appointment is a key part of this strategy and, as such, it is the first time that the company’s aviation and transport services division has appointed a dedicated managing director.
‘I’m delighted that Liz is now part of the Wilson James team,’ commented the company’s chief executive officer (CEO), Mark Dobson. ‘She brings a wealth of experience from across the aviation sector and her knowledge of security, service, sustainability, planning and corporate responsibility within the industry is superb. Her appointment highlights our commitment to developing this area of Wilson James’ operation and I believe the future is full of opportunities for us to realise our growth and investment plans. The Wilson James senior management team has never been stronger and I’m looking forward to working closely with Liz to cement our position as the aviation and transport services provider of choice.’
